GCstar Viewer for Android
A new application was just delivered for Android users, it's GCstar Viewer.
As its names implies, you can only use it to display a collection you created using GCstar. You cannot modify it. It can be downloaded from the following link, directly on your smartphone.
http://gcstar.org/viewer/AndroidGCstar.apk
To use it, you need to copy your collection (.gcs file) with a folder containing the pictures to the SD card of your phone. The constraint is that you should use relatives paths. Next version of GCstar will contain an export plugin that will do the job for you, whatever the settings are. Its documentation is available on this page:
http://wiki.gcstar.org/en/gcstar_viewer
I hope you will find useful. Please let me know by replying to this message. But please keep in mind I began to learn creating Android applications 4 days ago. So don't be too rude ;-)

Re: GCstar Viewer for Android
Hello, I just installed it on my Nexus One and it's working perfectly except for the pictures that don't show up.
I may have misinterpreted what you mean by "use relatives paths" so could you please give an example ?
Anyway great job and I look forward to seeing you code for Android ![]()

First, thanks for the feedback.

You should check the option "Use relative paths for images" you can see here :
http://wiki.gcstar.org/en/settings#paths
(Expert mode needs to be checked).
And use the default value for "Images directory" too (or something similar). You have to save the collection then (edit any field to be able to save). To check everything is OK you can open your collection with a text editor. Look for pictures in it. The value should look like :
image="collection_pictures/Alien_0.jpg"
Notice it doesn't begin with a slash, and you just have the subfolder name before the file name.
I understand it can be hard to be sure everything is OK. That's why there will be soon a new export plugin (its name is "External disk"). With that one, you will directly export your collection to your SD card, ready for GCstar Viewer.

Re: GCstar Viewer for Android
Ok, that's much clearer now and perfectly working. It's a very nice job, especially for a first Android app !
Just one bug I spotted : if the last collection is moved the app won't start.
Thank you for your quick help.

Re: GCstar Viewer for Android
Hello,
Great App!
I used to create exports (html) and open it with the android browser, but it is not very easy (can't bookmark a file on the SD-Card).
I have one request, is it possible to add a filter so only the not yet viewed movies are shown? That would be great.
Regards,
Josteman

Re: GCstar Viewer for Android
Hi, ![]()
It doesn't work on my Android Phone !?!
I have put on my sd all my folder with my collection.gcs file and all pictures.
When I start Android Viewer it said : "No .gcs or .gcz file founded. Please paste it anywhere on SD" (translation).
I don't understand what's wrong.
I use HTC Hero 2.1 and GCstar 1.5 on Ubuntu 10.04
Thanks

Thanks!

Re: GCstar Viewer for Android
Excellent work. ![]()
Is it possible to view "Id" field somewhere as my collection is sorted via Id?

Should you have a problem using GCstar, you can open a bug report or request some support on GCstar forums.
