Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
I was using Collectorz.com Movie Collector for a long time (in Windows). Now, under Ubuntu, I discovered GCStar and wanted to import my 400+ movies into it. Sadly there was no importer.
So I exported all data from Movie Collector to XML format and created a script which will load the exported XML and write a new XML file in GCStar format.
So all you have to do:
1. Export your Movie Collector data into a XML file called MovieCollector.xml
2. Create a folder "GCStar-output.xml_pictures" in the same directory
3. Copy all cover pics from Movie Collector to that newly created directory
4. Run mc2gcs.php.
This will write the file GCStar-output.xml which can be directly opened with GCStar.
Most field will be retained. The only problem is with series since the normal movie collection of GCStar doesn't know anything about it.
Cheers,

Hello,
Thank you very much for that. I added a piece of news about that on the main page to let users know about it.

Thanks for this unfortunately I switched to gcstar from collectorz along time ago. However I hope this helps someone else in a similar situation.

Re: Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
I tried this out and I am getting an error.
"PHP Catchable fatal error: Argument 1 passed to GCSItem::getFirst<> must be an instance of DOMNode, null given, called in C:\Temp\mc2gcs.phps on line 106 and defined in C:Temp\mc2gcs.phps on line 86"
Appreciate the work on this any help provided.
Thanks!

Re: Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
Same error for me.
If this works, you'll definitely be my hero. I got a 1500 dvd collection to import.
Thanks

Re: Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
@wadewood: I noticed that this eMail address is offline for some weeks now. So please send your XML export to mar2009@birth-online.de then I'll take a look into it why it doesn't work.
@Pluie: Please send your XML export to the same address (compressed, please ;-).
Cheers,

Re: Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
Personally I use Movienizer. It's also a good movie organizer. It can find and collect information about movies. How can I import my Movienizer db to Gcsta?

Re: Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
Thanks mbirth. Installed php, ran your php file, bit of tweeking of file extensions and directories and one working gcstar DVD collection. You've saved me a lot of time and effort - thanks again

Re: Movie Collector to GCStar Converter
I am using All My Movies for Windows and my brother using GCStar. Is it possible to open my collection with GCStar? My organizer is able to export to HTML, CHM, PDF, MS Excel, CSV - which format should I choose?
Thanks!

Should you have a problem using GCstar, you can open a bug report or request some support on GCstar forums.
